dog training
We only use positive reinforcement training, which uses rewards (praise, affection, toys, treats, etc.) to motivate your dog to succeed. Dogs learn better when they use their noggins to figure out how to get rewarded rather than doing the minimum to avoid punishment.
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
Private instruction is useful for people who don’t like or aren’t able to get to regular group classes, or whose dogs may not cope well in group settings. We can work on basic manners, crate training, or address undesirable behaviors like jumping on visitors. Private lessons are tailored to your needs: We can work on as many or as few issues as you like. Visits may include outings to your vet’s office, dog park, pet store, etc.
Private lessons are $75/hr.
TRAINING WALKS
We’ll teach your dog how to walk nicely on leash, including loose leash walking, “drop it” and “leave it”. Training walks may also address reactivity or over stimulation issues outside like barking, lunging and dog aggression. Although we’ll show your dog the ropes, training walks must be followed up with periodic private instruction so we can show you how to maintain your dog’s new manners.
Training walks are $45 (30-45 min.)
GROUP CLASSES
Our semi-private group classes are limited to five or six dogs. We keep our classes small to make sure every participant gets personalized instruction and lots of one-on-one time. Training should be fun – for you and your dog. We’ll teach you how to motivate your dog using positive reinforcement and rewards.
New classes are starting in mid-January, 2012:
- Basic Manners I
- Advanced Basic Manners
- Dog Play & Communication
- TTouch
- Dog Training for Kids
- Puppy Kindergarten & Playtime
All of our group classes are held at our Kensington facility, Happy Hound Club.
